Anthropic’s new $405K role shows where AI hiring is heading next

News RoomBy News RoomSeptember 17, 20262 ViewsNo Comments

Welcome to the AI era, where job postings are getting more niche — and more interdisciplinary.

Anthropic recently posted a remote-friendly “Staff Software Engineer” role for its GTM AI Engineering, or “Claudification” team. The pay range is from $320,000 to $405,000, which the post said includes both the sales commission target and annual base salary for the role.

According to the job description, the role involves building and directing AI agents that help run Anthropic’s sales operation, including responding to or reaching out to prospects and managing the pipeline.

The post makes it clear the company is looking for someone with both a sales and technical background. It requires at least eight years of experience in engineering, and a familiarity working with sales systems like CRM, sales engagement, conversation intelligence, or time spent working with a revenue team.

The ideal candidate has “worked in cultures of analytical rigor before, and you’re eager to help shape the norms and best practices of a growing AI engineering function at a pivotal moment in the company’s growth,” Anthropic wrote in the posting.

The push for interdisciplinary skills

AI is altering what jobs are considered important and how much you can get paid. For instance, it’s has led to a rise of certain roles, like prompt engineers, machine-learning engineers, and AI researchers. It’s also led to a boom in some non-technical jobs, like a Netflix role for director of product and technology communications with a salary of up to $775,000.

This Anthropic job is unique in that it’s a hybrid role involving integrating its AI model into the company’s sales business — and a reminder of just how quickly job titles are changing and melding, said Andrew Yeung, founder of tech events community Fibe.

Yeung, who wrote about the Anthropic job listing on LinkedIn, told Business Insider that it’s a sign that silos between different departments are breaking down. Yeung, who used to work at Meta and Google, said that business organizations once operated separately from engineering departments.

Now, he said, designers need to know how to code, marketers need to know how to host events, and coders need to know how to sell.

“All these roles are collapsing into these new combinations of tasks and activities,” said Yeung, who runs The Shortlist NY, a media and events company that connects operators with New York startups.

Scott Pulsipher, president of Western Governors University, told Business Insider that candidates should be thinking more and more about prioritizing AI fluency, as well as gaining interdisciplinary skills, he said.

“It’s the technology plus the humanity, plus the working of teams, working across industries,” Pulsipher said about the future of jobs. “You have to think more multi-disciplinarily.”
