The statue is a replica of a piece that was displayed in Baltimore’s Little Italy and toppled into the Inner Harbor during the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests.
Gifted to the White House by the Italian American Organizations United, the statue’s pedestal reads that it was “destroyed” on July 4, 2020, “resurrected” in 2022, and “rededicated by President Donald J. Trump, October 13, 2025.”
“In this White House, Christopher Columbus is a hero, and President Trump will ensure he’s honored as such for generations to come,” the White House said in a statement after its installation.
