Aldi will cut prices on one-third of its regularly stocked products, the company announced in a Sept. 23 news release provided to USA TODAY.
The company said the cuts will deliver an estimated $86 million in savings to customers.
“Customers trust us to help them make the most of their grocery budget, and we never stop looking for ways to run our business more efficiently so we can pass along savings,” Scott Patton, Aldi’s chief commercial officer, said in the release. “As shoppers head into fall routines and healthier habits, we’re making additional investments to lower prices on our better-for-you favorites, building on the value customers already see throughout our stores.”
Which Foods Are Included?
Items included in the price cuts are fall staples such as Bartlett pears, Brussels sprouts, butternut squash and spaghetti squash. The company noted that its Kirkwood chicken breast family packs are $1.99 a pound, the lowest price since 2022.
“These reductions build on hundreds of items where prices are already lower than they were in 2025,” the company said in the release.
The reductions will run from Sept. 23 until at least Nov. 3 at stores nationwide.
Why Aldi Is Cutting Prices
The price cuts come as grocery shoppers have seen increased prices this year.
In August, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that food-at-home prices were up 2.2% from a year earlier, with prices for fresh fruit and beef rising 3.8% and 5.9%, respectively. Half of Americans said higher grocery costs were making holiday hosting more stressful, according to an Omnisend survey.
Consumers have also felt inflation at the gas pump amid the U.S. war with Iran. Gasoline prices rose 27.4% from a year earlier, according to the August BLS data. As of Sept. 22, regular gas averaged $4.47 a gallon nationwide, according to AAA. Diesel reached a record $6.53 a gallon.
