8 of the best and worst looks seen on the 2026 Breakthrough Prize red carpet

News RoomBy News RoomApril 20, 20263 ViewsNo Comments

The Breakthrough Prize ceremony was the place to be for A-list actors, models, musicians, and billionaires over the weekend.

They gathered at the Barker Hangar venue in Santa Monica, California, on Saturday for the event, which celebrates scientific achievements of the past year.

While fashion isn’t an exact science, it played a big role on the Breakthrough Prize red carpet.

Some attendees, like Gigi Hadid, looked stunning, while others, including Sam Altman, made poor fashion choices for the red carpet.

Here’s what they wore.

Robert Downey Jr. looked sharp in a green suit and vintage accessories.

He walked the red carpet in a Saint Laurent ensemble that included a wool-and-mohair jacket, matching pants, a silk green shirt, and a navy satin tie.

The outfit was strong on its own, but made even better with accessories. The actor wore thick black boots, tinted sunglasses, and a vintage Van Cleef & Arpels brooch made of gold and sapphires.

Sam Altman and Oliver Mulherin matched too closely.

Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, walked the red carpet with his husband, Oliver Mulherin.

They both wore identical outfits: black tuxedos, white button-down shirts, black bow ties, shiny dress shoes, and no accessories.

Because their outfits were the same, neither man stood out. Altman’s suit in particular also needed more tailoring, as his pants looked too long.

Gigi Hadid stunned in a white satin gown.

David Koma designed her dress, which featured a halter neckline, a straight, floor-length skirt, and a round crystal brooch at the collarbone.

She wore it with diamond jewelry, neutral makeup, and a half-up, half-down hairstyle.

There were a few issues with Christina Aguilera’s look.

The Grammy-winning musician posed on the red carpet in a black Salih Balta gown. It had a leather, off-the-shoulder bodice, which was unique and looked great with her diamond necklace.

Unfortunately, the gown’s sheer skirt was less striking. It was an awkward length and had an uneven hem, creating a messy look.

Aguilera’s curly bob hairstyle and baby bangs also didn’t suit the look.

Adam Levine added a pop of color to his simple outfit, and it worked.

Levine arrived at the ceremony in a matte black suit. Its jacket had satin lapels, and its skinny trousers had sharp pleats.

To elevate the two-piece set, Levine also wore a baby-blue satin button-up shirt. The bright color was eye-catching and helped the Maroon 5 musician stand out.

Michelle Yeoh’s outfit was almost perfect.

She attended the Breakthrough Prize ceremony in a satin navy-blue suit.

Her long jacket elongated her frame and looked elegant with the lace top she wore beneath it. Her trousers were also perfectly high-waisted and pleated.

Still, her pants were a bit too long. More tailoring could have improved them, and a few accessories, like her gold necklace and chunky watch, should have been swapped for simpler pieces.

Evan Spiegel and Miranda Kerr looked elegant together.

Spiegel, the co-founder and CEO of Snap, the company behind Snapchat, was photographed on the Breakthrough Prize red carpet wearing a classic black tuxedo and a bow tie.

His outfit was the perfect complement to the blue Nicole + Felicia Couture gown his wife, model Miranda Kerr, wore.

Anne Hathaway was subtly chic in an asymmetrical gown.

She appeared on the red carpet in a black Ralph Lauren gown. The floor-length piece had one draped sleeve with a ruffled hem that extended down her side.

It also had an asymmetrical skirt that revealed her strappy sandals.

The dress was subdued, but pretty on Hathaway, who accessorized with silver and gold jewels from Bvlgari.
