Stellantis Orders Staff Back to the Office 5 Days a Week

News RoomBy News RoomJanuary 30, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Stellantis has become the latest automaker to crack down on remote work.

The Jeep and Ram owner has told US employees they must come into the office five days a week from March 30, according to an internal email to employees and internal guidelines seen by Business Insider.

Directors and above will be required to be on-site five days a week from February 16, according to an email sent by Stellantis CFO Joao Laranjo on Friday. It states that the decision will improve customer satisfaction, “strengthen our culture of innovation,” and create more opportunities for mentorship and skill development.

A set of guidelines entitled “Back Together We Win,” sent with the email, describes the five-day-a-week RTO as an “enterprise-wide initiative” that will apply to all employees in all regions, not just the US.

It notes that timings will vary by country as some regions may require “additional capacity for their facilities to accommodate their workforce.”

“Under new guidelines, US employees will transition to a fully onsite schedule over the next two months to further strengthen alignment, teamwork, and hands-on engagement with Stellantis vehicles and technologies,” a Stellantis spokesperson told Business Insider. “This announcement is confirmation that bringing teams together to build stronger connections is a competitive necessity.”

According to the guidelines sent to employees on Friday, employees would be required to confirm specific on-site working hours with their managers and teams.

“While we continue to support flexibility in work hours, employees are expected to spend the majority of their workday on-site,” the document read.

It also outlined several resources employees could access to support the transition, including discounts on childcare and 10 free counselling sessions a year available through an employee assistance program.

Stellantis told US employees they needed to be in the office three to five days last March. The company employed nearly 250,000 people globally as of the end of 2024, per financial filings.

The auto conglomerate, which includes European brands such as Fiat and Alfa Romeo, as well as US labels Jeep and Ram, follows several rivals in updating its working-from-home policies.

Ford told employees last June that they would be required to be in the office at least four days a week from September, and warned some workers that they could face termination if they did not comply.

In January 2025, meanwhile, Toyota told employees in North America they would also be required to attend the office four days a week from September.

Stellantis has endured significant turmoil in recent years, with the conglomerate’s US sales struggling and its stock price underperforming rivals Ford and GM.

Carlos Tavares, who had led the company since its formation in 2021, stepped down as CEO in December 2024 and was subsequently replaced by former Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa.
