America’s Favorite Dollar Store in 2026 Is Coming for High-Income Shoppers

News RoomBy News RoomFebruary 18, 20262 ViewsNo Comments

In an economy where a trip to the grocery store often ends in sticker shock, finding a retailer that delivers consistent value can feel like a victory.

American consumers have countless options for where to spend their money, but one discount chain is the favorite of the wallet-conscious. According to a recent ranking by Newsweek and BrandSpark International, the store they trust most to deliver deals is Dollar Tree.

With thousands of locations operating throughout the U.S. and a bulk-order business online, the chain has become a staple for shoppers. Here’s what to know about its recent ranking and how it’s expanding its customer base.

The most trusted dollar store

When it comes to stretching a buck, shoppers are putting their faith in Dollar Tree. The discount retailer was named the most trusted dollar store in the 2026 Most Trusted Awards released by Newsweek and BrandSpark International.

The rankings are based on an extensive survey of more than 35,000 American shoppers. Now in its 13th year, the study aims to identify the brands that consumers rely on the most across 286 different categories — from automotive goods to retail stores.

While the retail landscape is crowded with discount options, Dollar Tree secured the top spot in the dollar store category. It’s a significant win for the chain as it continues to compete for loyalty among value-conscious consumers, who may not be in the income bracket you’d expect.

No more dollar-store stigma

The surge in trust reflects a shift in consumer psychology known as the trade-down effect. Even as inflation cools, shoppers have inflation fatigue, prompting a change in how American consumers define value.

Shoppers who once ignored discount aisles now look at bargain hunting as being financially savvy. The stigma of the dollar store has largely been replaced by a more strategic approach to household management.

Wealthier consumers are realizing that staples — like cleaning supplies, paper goods and party favors — perform just as well whether they cost $1.25 or $5.

High-income dollar-store shoppers

Dollar Tree is pivoting from its traditional customer base to chase wealthier shoppers. According to Realtor.com, the discount retailer recently opened a store in Plano, Texas, a city where the median home list price hovers near $500,000.

And nearly half of the chain’s new locations over the past six years have popped up in affluent ZIP codes.

Recent data shows that households earning over $100,000 made up 60% of the company’s 3 million new customers. While these high earners might visit less frequently than core customers, they spend about $1 more per trip.

To keep these new shoppers coming back, the company is upgrading stores and focusing on safety and compliance.
