Trump called Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang mid-interview to rip AI doomerism: ‘The robots will not be taking over’

News RoomBy News RoomSeptember 15, 20262 ViewsNo Comments

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang got a call from President Donald Trump in the middle of his interview to swat down AI doomer predictions.

On Monday at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles, Huang’s talk was interrupted by a phone call from President Donald Trump, who called AI doomerism “a hoax.”

“The robots will not be taking over,” Trump said via speakerphone, adding that while “we have to be a little bit careful,” the US shouldn’t stop AI advancement.

The debate on AI safety has roiled Silicon Valley, especially after Jacob Coxon, a former Anthropic researcher, announced last week he resigned from the lab, writing on X that the people building AI “believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade.”

During the talk, Huang praised a former Anthropic researcher for speaking out on AI safety and also said the notion that the technology poses an existential threat is unscientific.

Weighing in, Huang called AI safety “paramount” and said that the US can still move fast.

“America is able to lead — and to do it safely,” he said.

Huang said Coxon showed “great courage” by coming forward. He also said there’s a difference between exposing existing problems within a company and making predictions about the future.

“I think the whistleblowing is fine. I think the scientific prediction about the future is less fine because it’s not grounded on science, obviously,” Huang said.

Huang said he doesn’t know what Coxon witnessed inside Anthropic and suggested the industry’s frontier labs are undergoing a difficult transition from research to engineering organizations.

The Nvidia CEO’s comments are consistent with his established views. He’s previously pushed back on what he’s called “science fiction” scenarios that scare people away from investing in technology that could make AI safer.

Trump also posted on Truth Social on Monday, saying that he was “breaking another Hoax — That AI is going to take over, consume, and destroy the World.”

Nvidia did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
