The 15 movies with the largest opening weekends of all time

Superhero fatigue seems not to count when it comes to your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” had a huge opening at the box office, bringing in $360 million its opening weekend, according to Sony, which released the movie. That’s the biggest domestic opening weekend ever, beating the prior No. 1, 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” which made $357 million its first weekend.

With the help of data from Box Office Mojo, we compiled the top 15 opening weekends ever at the domestic box office.

15. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” (2022)

Opening weekend: $181.3 million

Following the death of King T’Challa, his sister, Shuri (Letitia Wright), takes the Black Panther mask to fight for Wakanda.

14. “Incredibles 2” (2018)

Opening weekend: $182.6 million

The superhero family sets out on a new mission with Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) taking the lead and Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) taking a back seat to take care of the kids.

13. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” (2022)

Opening weekend: $187.4 million

One of the trippiest Marvel movies ever made, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) finds himself going up against the powers of the multiverse and the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen).

12. “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015)

Opening weekend: $191.3 million

Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a peacekeeping program called Ultron; things go horribly wrong.

11. “The Lion King” (2019)

Opening weekend: $191.7 million

This live-action version of Disney’s classic 1994 animated movie follows young Simba on his journey to become king.

10. “Black Panther” (2018)

Opening weekend: $202 million

Chadwick Boseman plays T’Challa, the King of Wakanda, a technologically advanced African nation. But his throne is challenged by a vengeful outsider, Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan).

9. “The Avengers” (2012)

Opening weekend: $207.4 million

Earth’s greatest heroes must figure out how to work as a team to stop the mischievous Loki.

8. “Jurassic World” (2015)

Opening weekend: $208.8 million

A new theme park is created on the site of the original Jurassic Park, leading to chaos as genetically modified dinosaurs escape containment.

7. “Deadpool & Wolverine” (2024)

Opening weekend: $211.4 million

Deadpool’s (Ryan Reynolds) search for Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) leads to a thrill ride filled with inside jokes and lots of F-bombs.

6. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” (2017)

Opening weekend: $220 million

Rey (Daisy Ridley) hones her new Jedi powers under the guidance of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who is unsettled by her abilities.

5. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (2015)

Opening weekend: $247.9 million

Three decades after the Empire’s defeat, a new threat arises in the militant First Order. A scavenger named Rey gets caught up in the Resistance’s search for the missing Luke Skywalker.

4. “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018)

Opening weekend: $257.7 million

The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos.

3. “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (2021)

Opening weekend: $260 million

Spider-Man (Tom Holland) finds himself battling old and new villains with the help of the Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield) in the multiverse.

2. “Avengers: Endgame” (2019)

Opening weekend: $357 million

After Thanos did the snap felt around the world, the remaining Avengers come together to set everything right.
