14 celebrity looks from the 2026 Met Gala that missed the mark

  • The 2026 Met Gala was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday night.
  • Some attendees wore outfits that were out of place and underwhelming.
  • Others wore suits that needed tailoring and dresses in unflattering colors.

Not everyone dressed their best for the 2026 Met Gala.

Celebrities and billionaires arrived at the Metropolitan Museum on Monday night, filling the red carpet with eye-catching fashion. Beyoncé wowed in a custom Olivier Rousteing look, and Blake Lively arrived in a vintage Versace gown.

Unfortunately, other stars didn’t hit the mark with their outfit choices. A few people dressed outside the “Fashion Is Art” dress code, and others needed more technical tweaks, like different tailoring.

From the underwhelming to the out of place, here are the worst looks seen at the Met Gala this year.

Ashley Graham

Graham arrived in a custom Di Petsa dress. The sheer fabric matched her skin tone, making it look like an extension of her body. The bodice hugged her figure, with a layer of fabric creating a criss-cross pattern across her torso, while the see-through skirt flared around her thighs and fell into a train.

She accessorized the look with diamond jewelry, slicked-back hair, and silver-tipped fingers that appeared painted.

Graham looked elegant, but the look was lackluster for the Met Gala. A gown that made a stronger statement would have stood out more on fashion’s biggest night.

Ben Stiller

Stiller chose a simple navy suit for the Met Gala, which he paired with an orange tie. The look appeared to be a nod to the New York Knicks, who are in the NBA playoffs and played the Philadelphia 76ers Monday night.

Stiller is a big Knicks fan, so it made sense for him to rep the team’s colors. However, it didn’t make any sense for the Met Gala. He should have saved the outfit for the ESPYs red carpet.

Olivia Wilde

Wilde attended in a Thom Browne design that was classic in the front and confusing in the back. The neutral gown featured a black satin bodice with off-the-shoulder straps, white tulle attached to her backside … and a structural cage extending from it.

The latter detail was especially strange and seemed out of place on the elegant garment.

Schwarzenegger took a fashion risk with his all-black ensemble. He wore an extra-short, cropped leather jacket over an extra-long blazer and a white button-up shirt, the latter tucked into corseted trousers. He also wore leather gloves, a black tie, and carried a cane.

Unfortunately, there were too many layers to the outfit to let us really appreciate any specific one.

Kardashian wore one of the most colorful looks of the night: a metallic orange bodysuit with a corseted waist and a high neckline. It seemed to be made of a plastic-like material that exaggerated the shape of her body.

Though the top piece was eye-catching, it was embellished with a leather half-skirt that didn’t match the look. It was custom-made for her by Allen Jones.

Odessa A'zion

Valentino custom-made A’zion’s daring Met Gala outfit. It comprised a black satin waist corset over sheer tights, thigh-high boots, a robe-like jacket draped at her hips, and floral appliques in place of a top.

There was ultimately too much going on with the outfit, and it overwhelmed the actor.

Charli XCX is known for her wild fashion, but she played it too safe at the Met Gala this year.

She wore a strapless Saint Laurent gown with a mesh train and a floral embellishment across its bodice. A more dramatic design, preferably one inspired by an art piece, would have fit the event better.

Camila Morrone

Camila Morrone was among the many, many stars who stuck to neutrals — both in color and structure.

Morrone’s custom Tory Burch satin dress was a pink so light it almost looked white, with a classic strapless bodice.

Her cape featured 7,000 silk flowers, but they were embroidered in the same black color as her cape, making them nearly invisible.

On a night meant to celebrate “Fashion Is Art,” she just gave us a nice dress that would’ve been at home on any other red carpet.

Cardi B has become a Met Gala icon, but her 2026 outfit won’t be remembered as one of her best. Her Marc Jacobs gown was crafted from sheer lace and tan satin that puffed out at her shoulders and around her feet. There were also random pastel patches tucked into the lace.

The musician seemed to be having fun with her outfit, but its oversized fabric puffs made it look more silly than fashionable.

Rami Malek

Malek’s all-black Saint Laurent ensemble consisted of a trench coat, pants, and a dramatic, fuzzy scarf that cinched tight on his neck. He wore the look with the Cartier Crash watch and a brooch on his lapel.

There were fun elements to Malek’s look, but unfortunately, the scarf overshadowed the rest of the outfit, and it wasn’t immediately clear how the look related to the dress code.

Tyla

Tyla’s custom Valentino gown was daring. Its bodice was made of strands of gems that dipped low in the center and cut out on the sides. The teal skirt sat low on her waist, and it featured a dramatic slit in the center.

The skirt and top felt a bit disjointed, and her body glitter didn’t quite fit the look. Compared to Tyla’s showstopping 2024 Met Gala look, the dress just wasn’t as impressive.

Serena Williams

The tennis star wore metallic Marc Jacobs for the Met Gala. The halter-style dress had a single strap, a keyhole cutout, ruching at the waist, and a skirt that was mini on one side and floor-length on the other.

Though the silhouette looked stunning on Williams, her gown’s silver shade made it look more like a costume than a red-carpet piece. The same can be said for her strappy gold heels.

Karlie Kloss

Garlic is famously banned from the Met Gala menu — along with onions and chives — but that didn’t stop Karlie Kloss from channeling the famous allium.

Kloss’ white gown featured a bulbous bottom, which offered some whimsy. But the monochromatic look, complete with an out-of-place floral headpiece, still felt plain.

Maybe it’d be better for “dinner with the Kushners”?

Sarah Pidgeon

Sarah Pidgeon single-handedly helped revive tortoiseshell headbands and oval sunglasses with her portrayal of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy in “Love Story.”

But the buzzy TV actress’ lime-green Loewe co-ord, featuring a bandeau top and skirt, probably won’t kick off any new trends.

The ensemble was pretty but predictable, with the kind of silhouette already copied endlessly by fast fashion. We would’ve loved to see Pidgeon add something extra — a train, a cape, anything! — for some drama.
