Is your LinkedIn feed filthy with AI slop? Have you read enough generic ChatGPT broetry to make you want to log off and open a real book?

LinkedIn has a solution.

The company is introducing a new feature this week that lets users flag when a post in their feed “seems like AI slop.”

When you tag a post as sloppy, it will disappear from your feed. LinkedIn is also testing a method of privately notifying the poster in their account dashboard that their words “may have come off as inauthentic,” according to the company’s chief product officer, Hari Srinivasan, who wrote about the feature on Thursday.

The company doesn’t want to be the arbiter of what is good or bad AI content, he said, because “AI and slop are not the same thing.”

“We want members to get feedback from real humans on what sounds authentic — not just have an AI detector review it and get it wrong,” he continued.

AI-generated content has run rampant on LinkedIn in recent months. Like its social-network peers TikTok and Instagram, the company is reckoning with a wave of artificially made posts as generative AI tools like Anthropic’s Claude, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and ByteDance’s Seedance 2.0 make it much easier to spin up content quickly.

LinkedIn has developed its own particular brand of AI slop, as corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, and job hunters flood the feed with generic, AI-generated thought leadership and business truisms. The AI detector company Pangram recently estimated that 41% of long LinkedIn posts and 30% of shorter posts were AI-generated.

Other media platforms have been testing ways to cut down on poorly written AI content. The newsletter app Substack recently announced a partnership with Pangram to let users scan for AI, for example. In November, TikTok began testing the ability to let users toggle how much AI content appears in their feeds.

Cracking down on unwanted AI could be critical for the platforms as they look to avoid alienating users.

“AI slop is a top priority for all of us,” Srinivasan wrote in his post. “We really care about this. People come to LinkedIn to connect with real people and share their real perspectives, ideas and expertise.”
