Memorial Day is here, and whether you need to do some grocery shopping for the week ahead or just need to make a last-minute trip to grab some refreshments or grilling materials, consumers should have plenty of options.
Most restaurants, grocery stores and national retailers will remain open on Monday, May 25. However, banks, post offices, shipping services and the stock market will be closed because Memorial Day is a federal holiday.
Will Walmart Be Open or Closed on Memorial Day 2026?
Walmart will be an option for shoppers, as its stores will operate under regular hours on Memorial Day, the company confirmed to USA TODAY. Most Walmart locations are open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
Are Other Grocery Stores Open on Memorial Day?
Most grocery chains will be open under their regular operating hours on May 25. Kroger says on its website their stores will be open regular hours; however, pharmacy and clinic hours may vary.
Other grocery stores, such as Trader Joe’s, Meijer, Publix, Whole Foods and Food Lion, among others, have traditionally been open on Memorial Day. It is always best to check with your local store regarding specific holiday hours.
Costco is one notable national grocer that will be closed on Memorial Day, according to its website. Sam’s Club warehouses will open at 8 a.m. for Plus members and 9 a.m. for Club members, and will close at 8 p.m., according to the company’s website.
BJ’s warehouses will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Memorial Day, the company said.
