When School Starts Again in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties

School starts in less than a month across all of South Florida’s counties — although the exact date varies by district.

Below is a breakdown by county, including when students can expect classes to end again.

Why Florida School Calendars Differ

Start and end dates are individually determined by each of Florida’s school districts, which develop academic calendars by taking into account input from a variety of sources, including calendar committees in some cases.

When Does School Start in South Florida?

  • Broward: Classes start Aug. 10 and end May 28.
  • Miami-Dade: Classes start Aug. 13 and end June 3.
  • Monroe: Classes start Aug. 12 and end May 28.
  • Palm Beach County: Classes start Aug. 10 and end May 27.

Florida’s 2026 Back-to-School Sales-Tax Holiday

Florida’s 2026 back-to-school sales-tax holiday began Monday, July 20, and will run through Thursday, Aug. 20.

According to the Florida Department of Revenue, the full list of qualifying items includes the following, if they meet specified price limits and other conditions:

  • Personal computers and computer-related accessories purchased for noncommercial home or personal use, with a sales price of $1,500 or less, including calculators, desktops, e-book readers, handhelds, laptops, tablets and tower computers.
  • Personal computer-related accessories, including keyboards, mice, modems, monitors, nonrecreational software, other peripheral devices, personal digital assistants and routers.
  • Wallets and bags, except briefcases, suitcases and other garment bags, priced at $100 or less per item, including backpacks, diaper bags, fanny packs and handbags.
  • School supplies priced at $50 or less per item, including binders, tape, compasses, composition books, computer disks, construction paper, crayons, erasers, folders, glue, legal pads, lunch boxes, markers, notebooks, filler paper, pencils, pens, poster board, poster paper, protractors, rulers, scissors and staplers.
  • Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles priced at $30 or less, including flashcards, educational electronic books and toys, matching games, puzzle books and stacking or nesting blocks.
  • Clothing, footwear and accessories priced at $100 or less per item, including apparel, shoes, boots, sandals, belts, hats, gloves and scarves.
