The first official trailer for Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s genre-bending Elizabeth Holmes documentary “You Can See Everything” has arrived, and it promises an intimate look at one of Silicon Valley’s most notorious felons.
The documentary follows Holmes, the once-celebrated founder of Theranos, a now-defunct blood-testing startup, who was accused of building the company on false promises and nonexistent technology. While Holmes has admitted that she made mistakes, she denied any criminal wrongdoing. Following a lengthy trial, Holmes was found guilty in 2022 on four counts of fraud and conspiracy.
As we see in the documentary’s trailer, which adopts the tone of a mind-bending mystery-thriller, Holmes has continued to maintain her innocence. But Fielder and Oppenheim are clearly skeptical.
Fielder serves as a kind of host, interviewer, and narrator as he moves in with Holmes and her family in the weeks before she reported to prison to serve an 11-year-sentence in May 2023.
In the trailer, Fielder bluntly asks Holmes how she ended up as a convicted felon if she did nothing wrong. She replies, “I wish I knew, you know? I don’t know. I don’t feel like I understand that.”
Later, she tells Fielder, “I don’t have anything to hide.”

The documentary was filmed in secret
Holmes reported to federal prison on May 30, 2023, to begin serving her 11-year sentence. (Her prison time has since been shortened by roughly two years.)
“You Can See Everything” was kept under wraps for over three years until it had its surprise premiere at the Telluride Film Festival in early September. A short teaser arrived online that same day.
Critics who attended the screening have described “You Can See Everything” as disarming, surreal, and fascinating. Holmes and her partner, Billy Evans, are depicted as “willing, if wildly offbeat subjects,” according to Deadline’s Pete Hammond.
Kyle Buchanan, the former awards columnist at The New York Times, said that Evans comes across as a “wild narcissist” and the “unlikely star of this film.”

Holmes and Evans welcomed a baby boy named William in 2021 while Holmes was awaiting trial for her charges. The birth of their second child was revealed in a 2023 court filing, as Holmes’ legal team sought to delay her incarceration.
In one scene, Evans tells Fielder that he fell in love with Holmes almost immediately, during their first conversation.
Fielder pushes back, asking when Evans learned the truth about Theranos and whether he’s concerned about Holmes’ track record.
“Weren’t you worried that she was, sort of, scamming you?” Fielder asks.
“100%, but what did she have to gain from me?” Evans replies.
“Well, isn’t your family rich?” Fielder counters.
Evans is the heir to Evans Hotels, a hospitality company founded by his grandparents that runs three luxury hotels in San Diego. He currently works as a biotech executive at the blood testing startup Haemanthus, according to his LinkedIn.
“I think that there’s, like, a lot of different levels of wealth,” Evans tells Fielder in the trailer. In another clip, Evans says that he doesn’t believe Holmes has ever lied to him.
Holmes and her ex-boyfriend and co-defendant, Sunny Balwani, were ordered to pay $452 million in restitution to victims of their Theranos fraud in 2023 in addition to their prison sentences.
“You Can See Everything” arrives in theaters on October 16.
