When my arrow went straight into the woods while trying archery for the first time, it should have been hilarious. If I’d had family or friends around, they would have teased me for ages and probably come up with some funny nickname, like Joey “The Arm” Hadden.
But as a lone wolf surrounded by groups of vacationers, it was just awkward.
This was in July, when I spent two nights at the all-inclusive Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York. With a starting rate of $1,400 a night for double occupancy (though Business Insider received a media rate), my booking included meals and access to most of the hotel’s activities.
