Microsoft’s new commercial CEO is making changes to his top ranks, internal memo shows

News RoomBy News RoomFebruary 4, 20260 ViewsNo Comments

Judson Althoff, a veteran Microsoft executive recently promoted to commercial CEO, is making changes to the top ranks of his team, according to an internal memo viewed by Business Insider.

He elevated Deb Cupp to executive vice president and chief revenue officer of global enterprise sales, according to the memo. Cupp’s previous title was president and chief revenue officer of enterprise, according to an internal organizational chart from when Althoff was promoted in October.

Althoff’s promotion was intended to give CEO Satya Nadella and Microsoft’s engineering leaders more time to focus on AI, according to an internal memo viewed by Business Insider, which described the moment as “a tectonic AI platform shift.”

Cupp has been at Microsoft for more than eight years and is known for helping the company tailor cloud services for specific industries. In this new role, Cupp will help handle the company’s most strategic customer accounts and executive relationships.

“Judson expanded the remits of his leadership team to free up more time to focus on Microsoft’s commercial product strategy and to keep the feedback loop between customers and product decisions as small as possible,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement. “This feedback loop is critical right now because AI is being adopted at extraordinary speed, and our customers expect these capabilities to come to life in their business faster than ever before.”

According to the memo, Althoff made other changes, including:

  • Mala Anand is EVP & Chief Customer Experience Officer. Althoff described the move as “bringing together our full spectrum of services including Industry Solutions Delivery, Customer Success, and Support โ€” across Customer Experience & Success.” Anand’s previous title was president and chief commercial experience officer, according to Althoff’s October org chart.
  • Nick Parker is EVP & Chief Business Officer of Worldwide Sales & Solutions (WSS). “His team leads Commercial Solution Areas, co-engineering, and sales teams including enterprise, industry, partner, and devices,” Althoff wrote. Parker’s title is a promotion from president.
  • Ralph Haupter is EVP & Chief Revenue Officer, Small, Medium Enterprises & Channel (SME&C), which Althoff described as “focused on earning increased share down market through agentic selling and scaling with our Cloud Solution Provider.”
  • Kim Akers will continue as Chief Operating Officer, and Takeshi Numoto as Chief Marketing Officer, both reporting to Althoff.

Commercial business update and leadership announcement

We have all been rapidly changing how we work as an AI-first company, and we are evolving how we operate to reflect the same. We must become faster, flatter, and more agile in our operating rhythms, empowering our people with the authority to make decisions and removing the friction for them to do so.

Our commercial cohort operating model has illustrated how effective we can be as a company. The cohort forums are intellectually honest sessions aimed at tightening the feedback loop between the voice of the customer and our product ethos. This approach brings engineering, marketing, sales, services, and operations together across the topics that matter most for our business, ensuring that our product ambitions accrue to our customers’ needs in this era of Frontier Transformation. In the runup to Ignite, we collaborated through this process to formulate our Intelligence + Trust strategy and pave the way forward for Copilot, our IQ and developer platforms, and Agent 365.

With this new commercial model established, I will be asking more of our MCAPS leadership to run the business in service of our customers and partners. In recognition of their increased scope and responsibility, I am pleased to share the following role changes to Executive Vice President, which will continue reporting directly to me:

Deb Cupp is our EVP & Chief Revenue Officer, Global Enterprise. She will continue leading our global enterprise sales organization.

Mala Anand is our EVP & Chief Customer Experience Officer, bringing together our full spectrum of services including Industry Solutions Delivery, Customer Success, and Supportโ€”across Customer Experience & Success.

Nick Parker is our EVP & Chief Business Officer of Worldwide Sales & Solutions (WSS). His team leads Commercial Solution Areas, co-engineering, and sales teams including enterprise, industry, partner, and devices.

Ralph Haupter is our EVP & Chief Revenue Officer, Small, Medium Enterprises & Channel (SME&C) focused on earning increased share down market through agentic selling and scaling with our Cloud Solution Provider partners.

Please join me in congratulating Deb, Mala, Nick, and Ralph.

Kim Akers will continue in her current capacity as our Chief Operating Officer, and Takeshi Numoto remains our Chief Marketing Officer, also reporting directly to me.

I am inspired by how these teams and the cohort operating model are strengthening our core values of customer obsession and One Microsoft. With an increased focus on the commercial business across the company, I look forward to leading our customers, partners, and Microsoft through Frontier Transformation alongside all of you.

Judson
