Kristen Bell says her time working with Cher left her with a lesson that continues to shape her approach to life.
On Monday’s episode of “Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard,” which featured both Bell and Cher as guests, the duo talked about their time together on the 2010 film “Burlesque” and their friendship since.
“But listen, people ask me a lot, ‘What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten?’ And I say it’s from you, because you said to me, ‘Honey, if it doesn’t matter in five years, it doesn’t matter,'” Bell said on the podcast.
“That’s my mom’s. If it doesn’t matter in five years, it doesn’t matter. And I’ve used it my whole life,” the “Believe” singer said, adding that the mindset has always felt relevant to her.
Bell also reflected on how easily she and Cher connected on set, describing a shared sense of humor that helped them get through the shoot.
“The way you get, or at least the way I get through dramatic or chaotic situations, is to find someone to hold hands with in the corner and just laugh at everything,” Bell said, adding that she often did that with Cher or their costar, Stanley Tucci.
Cher, on the other hand, has a different method when it comes to dealing with setbacks.
“I thought of myself as a bumper car. You hit the wall, and you either hit the wall and stay there, or you hit the wall and come back, and you go that way,” Cher said.
